Expanded guidelines for use of varicella-zoster immune globulin.

چکیده
Zoster immune globulin (ZIG) can prevent clinical chickenpox in exposed, susceptible, normal chilthen.’ In a collaborative study2 in which 15 susceptible children at high risk received ZIG within three days following exposure, there were no deaths and only one child developed progressive vanicella. At that time, a mortality of 7% and a rate of progressive varicella of 30% were reported in similar children who failed to receive prophylaxis.3 At the present time, vanicella may be even more hazardous for children with leukemia, possibly because of the use of more intensive therapy.

Updated Recommendations for Use of VariZIG — United States, 2013
In December 2012, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved VariZIG, a varicella zoster immune globulin preparation (Cangene Corporation, Winnipeg, Canada) for use in the United States for postexposure prophylaxis of varicella for persons at high risk for severe disease who lack evidence of immunity to varicella* and for whom varicella vaccine is contraindicated. Previously available unde...

Background: Varicella-zoster infection is a serious and potentially fatal disease, especially among newborns.Several studies have described postnatal varicella zoster exposure among neonates and reported on the efficacy of varicella-zoster immunoglobulins (VZIG) used as post-exposure prophylaxis. Unfortunately, VZIG is not available in Jordan. A limited number of studies have investigated the e...
متن کاملAntibody to varicella-zoster virus after passive immunization against chickenpox.
Antibody titers to varicella-zoster virus were measured in varicella-susceptible immunocompromised children 48 h after they received either one of two lots of zoster immune globulin (ZIG) or a selected lot of immune serum globulin (ISG). Globulin was given to modify varicella in these children after exposure to varicella or zoster. Indirect immunofluorescence antibody titers (FAMA) of children ...

متن کاملVaricella zoster virus infection in pregnancy.
Varicella-zoster virus can cause a distinct congenital syndrome, a potentially fatal neonatal infection and life-threatening maternal illness. Physicians can reduce morbidity from these conditions by advising nonimmune pregnant women to avoid exposure to chickenpox and herpes zoster and, when indicated, by promptly administering varicella-zoster immune globulin. When prevention fails, acyclovir...
